Description
Mr Septimus Harding, elderly warden of Hiram's Hospital, lives comfortably with his young daughter, Eleanor, on the charitable wealth of the Alm house he supervises. When a zealous young reformer, and his daughter’s suitor, John Bold, launches a campaign to expose the inequality in the distribution of the charity's income between its object and its officer, Mr Harding, the community is shocked.
