Description
In 1939, Thomas Jefferson Danforth became embroiled in a plot to kill Hitler; he travelled to Europe to provide cover for a mysterious female assassin, Anna Klein, a woman Danforth fell deeply and obsessively in love with. The scheme was unsuccessful; the conspirators were arrested by the Gestapo and to his surprise, Danforth was released, but of Anna there was no word. Was it possible that Anna herself could have been a traitor?
Now, in his ninety-first year, he tells his tale to the young man from Washington he has summoned to hear it.
