Love Audio 2018

Love Audio week takes place from 11-17th June and is a celebration of audiobooks.

Co-ordinated by the Publishers Association audiobook publishers across the UK come together to promote their best and most beloved audiobooks. You can find more details on the official Love Audio website.

There are a bunch of electronic resources that your library can download to promote Love Audio week to your members.

Audiobooks booming

Audiobook sales have doubled in the last five years, according to data from the Nielsen UK Books & Consumers survey.

While UK consumers bought 3% fewer books last year than 2016 overall across all print and digital formats, audiobook purchases rose both in volume by 12% and value by 15%, with purchases in this format nearly doubling since 2012.

Audiobook purchases now account for 5% of consumer book spending in the UK, and 7% of fiction sales by value, Nielsen have reported.

An insight into working with audiobooks

As part of Love Audio Week we've asked some of our team here at W.F.Howes HQ to tell us what they love about audiobooks, and what they enjoy most about working in the industry.

We will be meeting a new member of the team each day this week:

Library event

To celebrate ‘Love Audio’ Week we’ve teamed up with HarperCollins and West Sussex libraries to put on a unique event on Tuesday 12th June that offers library members the opportunity to hear all about audio production from the viewpoint of a bestselling author, narrator and technical expert.

Hailed as ‘the new queen of crime’ and ‘the master of gripping literature’ Katerina Diamond is the author of four electrifying thrillers, including The Teacher and The Promise.

Katerina will be discussing her work, then library members will listen to professional narrator, Antonia Beamish read an extract.

The audience will then learn how an audiobook is made before being given the opportunity to record some audio themselves to see how the process works.

For more details and to reserve a space visit the West Sussex Library website.

Narrator interviews

With the popularity of audiobooks on the rise, we asked some of the narrators recording our studios what they love about audio as a format.

Listen to these short clips to see what inspires them about audio:

We will be sharing information on our social media channels through the week. Join in the conversation with the #LoveAudio hashtag.
