Sally Rooney wins the Costa Novel Award for her second novel Normal People

Irish novelist Sally Rooney, 27, has won the Costa Novel Award for her novel Normal People, making her the youngest ever recipient of the prize. Rooney is one of five category winners and will now compete for the ultimate prize - 2018's Costa Book of the Year - which is due to be announced on 29th January.

Normal People has garnered an impressive number of accolades, making it one of the most acclaimed novels of 2018. As well as being longlisted for the Man Booker Prize, Normal People was named Eason Book Club Novel of the Year and Waterstones’ Book of the Year, and was crowned critics' book of the year.
