SmartPass
SmartPass guides are full-cast audio dramas which bring the study of English literature exam texts alive. The teacher/guide PassMaster helps students to analyse and explore by pausing the action to:
- Clarify and comment upon the plot, language and imagery.
- Flesh-out the characters and setting, by adding background about the social history and the author.
- Question or 'hotseat' characters about their actions and motivations.
- Set tasks, designed to develop study skills and strategies.
These unique award-winning study guides are a proven success in helping students achieve their maximum potential in core GCSE/AS Level English subjects. Ideal for students of any age or ability, they offer an absorbing and fresh approach to the study of some of the keystones of English Literature.
How do they work?
- Simple technology - a CD player is all you need.
- They're entertaining and fast-paced - they don't dumb down the text but give straight and simple explanations and guidance.
- Written specifically for study and revision by experienced and enthusiastic teachers, they present the drama and its analysis in bite-sized chunks that are easy to absorb.
What do they offer?
Instant access to the best of teaching and drama at the touch of a button.
The key to:
- Greater understanding and appreciation of literature.
- Higher grades and exam success.
- A rounded knowledge of the text and a real insight into the society and history of the time .
Who are they for?
- Students can study and revise at their own pace
- Families can join in; the drama and analysis is very friendly and conversational, designed to be easily absorbed rather than pummelled in!
- For accelerated learners; the tasks/suggestions are as challenging as you wish to make then; and the nuts-and-bolts approach to essay writing allows high flyers to excel.
- As a catch-up tool for those who are dropping back in class, as they can move at their own pace, re-listen to sections and concentrate on tasks to build their confidence.
- For those who learn best by listening, the regular shift from drama to commentary will help focus their attention. Ideal for students who cannot access reading materials through visual impairment or other disability.
- Audio allows group participation - the drama and analysis is friendly and conversational and designed to be easily absorbed.
- Teachers can use the dramatic sections in class to spark discussion and debate and lead to creative projects. Coursework and essay ideas are included at the end of each guide.
